Your data, in plain English

• No advertising, no tracking, no analytics.
• Your data is used only for the things you choose to do here.
• It is never sold, and never shared with anyone for their own use.
• When you leave, it is deleted.

If you read without an account

Everything you save — words, answers, writing, your reading level — stays in your own browser, on your device. It is never sent to us. Clearing your browser’s data removes it.

If you have an account

Accounts are by invitation: your teacher adds your email address. So that your work can follow you from one device to another, we keep:

• your email address, to send you sign-in links
• your name, if you choose to add one
• what you save here: words, answers, writing, the articles you have read and where you stopped
• your settings, such as your reading level

Nothing else.

When you use the AI tools

Two tools send text to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI models. They send it only when you use them:

• Looking up a word sends the word and the sentence it is in, so the definition fits the sentence.
• Check my writing sends your writing, the task, and the words you saved.

Your name and email address are never sent with them. Under Anthropic’s terms for businesses, it does not use what we send to train its models. If it cannot be reached, a word you look up goes to a free public dictionary instead — the word alone, without the sentence.

Who else is involved

A few companies run parts of the site for us. Each one receives only what it needs for its part:

• Vercel hosts the site.
• Supabase stores accounts and what they save.
• Resend sends the sign-in emails.
• Anthropic runs the two AI tools above.
• Google Fonts supplies the typefaces, so your browser asks Google for them, as it does on most websites.

Some of these companies are based in the United States, so your data may be handled there.

Cookies

There are two small cookies: one lets you into the site, and the other keeps you signed in. Each lasts up to a year and does nothing else. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, which is why you have never seen a cookie banner here.

When you leave

When you leave, we delete your account and everything saved in it. You can also ask us to delete it at any time, without giving a reason.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Write to help@fluencyreview.com and we will reply within a month.

Fluency Review is run by Darius Jones in London, who is responsible for your data. If you are unhappy with how it has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
